morning. 27 in concord, 27 in novato. redwood city, 30 for you, as well as san jose. so with another two to three degrees of cooling, certainly it will be a very, very cold night and not much change for your monday morning. but look at san francisco, 40 here. tonight we will see some more wind, but it will still be really cold until the middle of the week when this cold parcel of air begins to modify as our ridge of high pressure brings a also more wind and we see the warmer air mass. 8 degrees colder this morning in napa. 5 degrees colder in fremont and fairfield. san francisco about the same, as well as our coastline. so our highlights then, freezing temperatures this morning. sunny days and cold nights right on through about tuesday. and then by wednesday and thursday not only will we warm up, we will see temperatures a little bit above average. by the end of the work week some 60s come into play. we have high pressure in the eastern pacific, bringing that

welcome back, everyone. in morning france is on alert for a possible terrorist attack following military action in africa. french troops were on the move yesterday from the country of chad to mali as french aircraft pound islamist rebel bases. france sent planes and troops to mali after an appeal from that country's president. the mali rebels are link today al-qaeda. the concern is they are using mali as a base to attack the west. they will increase protection at their public buildings and transportation hubs. all across this country people are lining up at doctors offices, pharmacies and clinics and he trying to get vaccinate today to stay one step ahead of a flu epidemic. at the same time more and more

hospitals are cracking down on their health workers who are refusing flu shots. a. bc news reports. >> the flu epidemic sweeping the country is forcing more government action. new york governor andrew cuomo declared a public health emergency on saturday. order allows pharmacists to immunize children and it comes as the number of influenza cases is nearing 20,000 in the state, more than four times the cases reported during last year's flu season. hospitals are overwhelmed. >> we are setting records in the urgent care center in terms of the number patients are seeing per day. >> and it's about spreading a mass spread of those most at risk. >> we are trying to keep them in their rooms. >> patients across the country are suffering. >> i've been in bed for about five, six days. >> since then she has gotten a flu shot, but others aren't so lucky. some hospitals and doctors are running out of flu vaccine.

condition that affects an estimated 14 million people in the country. it can take a severe toll on everything from your vision to quality of life. here's carolyn johnson with the details. >> on a bad day, even driving can be a challenge for helen cole. >> the hardest part about driving is seeing the signs clearly and it adds a distinctive glare of buriness. >> while her normal vision is fine, the blurriness comes from a condition called dry eye. she's forced to treat it throughout the day. >> from the time you get up in the morning your eyes already feel gritty, sometimes they are swollen. definitely red and they have a burning sensation. >> you have a relatively low oil here. >> the opt tommologist said the condition is often caused by a lack of oil which allows the eye's natural shape pour to evaporate. he is going to treat it with a

new technology called bipiflow. first they perform a laser scan of her eyes to measure the amount and quality of the oil, as well as her natural pattern of blinking. >> that represents the blinks. >> after analyzing the data, the doctor places two small cups directly on to helen's eyes. they are designed to reach the oil glands beneath her eyelids. >> it warms the eye to about jacuzzi temperature. not hot, but comfortable. it melts the oils and using a computer program it applies general tell pressure and expresses the abnormal oils from the glands. >> the procedure takes about twelve minutes and the mild heat does not typically cause any discomfort. once the glands are cleared the eyes again producing oil and moisture. diana had the procedure earlier this year. >> i would say within four days or so i could tell that my eyes did not seem as dry or as uncomfortable. >> the doctor said in severe case it is can take eight to ten

weeks to experience relief, but the improvement often lasts several years. >> i think the whole tech following from beginning to end is revolutionary. >> and for patients like helen it offers the hope of making it through the day without concentrating on taking care of her eyes. >> a home run would be to, actually, have about totally go away, but for now i would just be happy with having good days. >> and carolyn says that an average treatment costs 1600 -- or rather $1,800 and it is not covered by insurance right now. however, dr. mandell points out the improvement can improve expenses ranging from eye drop prescriptions to regular eye appointments. we bundle up in the bay area and it feels like spring on the east coast. temperatures in the 60s over a broad area of the ohio valley and the southeast. today temperatures could reach 70 degrees from southern virginia to florida. in all, more than 40 cities could tie or break record-high temperatures this weekend.

the bay shoreline. peninsula and up toward point rays. temperatures much more modified, around 40 degrees san francisco. 25 santa rosa. napa. and 27 in concord. good morning fairfield, 29 for you and 30 in livermore, as well as san jose and los gatos. the coast right now not bad. we take you down to the central coast. how about 32 degrees in santa cruz and salinas. it's 27 in gilroy. so a definitely chilling out all across the bay and another frosty start for tomorrow. so freeze warning and frost advisories likely again overnight tonight. we are colder in napa, fairfield and fremont, everywhere except half moon bay this morning. bundle up out there with the freezing temperatures. we will take a bit to warm up. once again, upper 40s to low 50s. so below the average, but by the middle of the work week into the end of the work week, not only

bringing back to average temperatures but we will be milder than that with numbers near 60 by thursday and friday and next weekend look pretty mild. but in between now and then, it's cold high pressure with the origin of the air mass up in alaska. we are looking at the lack of wind and the lower dewpoints, allowing for those cold temperatures in the valleys as the old colder air drains to the valleys. 27 in tahoe, 61 sacramento. not quite as cold in sacramento. they have a bit of a wind this morning. 58 in los angeles today. back home once again very little change with those upper 40s from the livermore valley. 50 in richmond. plenty of sunshine san francisco, 50 and 51 palo alto and tonight we will get a little bit of wind in the north bay. but still it's not going to upset that aidiation natural cooling and we will be very cool again. 52 salinas. we are talking more 20s and 30s by the water. upper 30s san francisco and we will looking for some of those
